While Capresso isn’t the coolest name the design really is. It is compact, stylish and has a big feature range that lets you create espressos, cappuccino’s, and lattes just as you like them.
It’s 800 watt heater can’t be compared to say a 1500 watt Gaggia 90951 and is low end in comparison and you do have to wait a few seconds longer (but the price is way lower than the Gaggia of course) And remember that 800 watts is the power it consumes, not what it outputs. Efficiency we have found makes up for some of the shortfall. Warm up time is sub 2 minutes.
The 303.01 is efficient in more ways too.
There is little effort asked of you to make a brew. The fact that you can program brew settings for different cup sizes is a good reason too. And being able to set strength to your personal taste is a great help.
Then there is the inbuilt frother that lets you adjust steam output and steam small or big milk quantities in just a few seconds. Different sized cups are managed by the simple swivel feature. Removing the plastic tip is a good user tip though. I’ve no idea why they put these one, they are rubbish!
You can make your brew safely, too, thanks to the built-in safety mechanism for the boiler cap. The cap stops accidents by use of a double-lock mechanism, I must point out that this does take a bit of effort to learn how to close it easily, but in my opinion the extra safety makes it well worth it. Add to that the protective thumb guard on the filter holder and I think you will agree that this machine has been designed with the user in mind, especially the new espresso machine owner.
The dishwasher safe carafe further demonstrates the design thoughtfulness. If you don’t like hand washing and now you don’t need to.
The drip tray is removable and you can rinse clean in a few seconds, so no time needed on that job. Plus the Capresso 303.01 is very light so is no hassle to move about for the wiping of exterior and parts.
One thing though, this is not a big party expresso machine. With a 4 cup capacity it is ideal for mornings I reckon. Fine for a couple of cups for you and the partner before work or after breakfast at the weekends and not enough to give you a coffee peak and drop. So for a big group machine look at other options.
Capresso have added some nice extras too which is unusual for such a low priced expresso maker. The coffee scoop, for example, doubles up as a tamper and is extremely useful.
But don’t think of this as a barista high level machine, it is not automatic and will not babysit you. It is important to learn the instructions and practice with it. But I reckon that’s no bad thing for expresso machine virgins. Creating your very own espressos is part science, part art and a major element is the satisfaction you get from learning.
In the end the real pleasure of course is when you drinking your own creations. And in that area you won’t be disappointed in what the Capresso 303.01 produces for you. Basically you get a lovely brew with a minimum of work and we all like that!
