More or less weekly I receive e-mails coming from people asking for an alternative to Photoshop or Photoshop Elements, looking for something less expensive and much easier to work with. My Memories Suite might be just what you would like. I’ve been writing a My Memories Suite Review the last week. This doesn’t have the same learning curve as Photoshop or Photoshop Elements. Let me admit that I was a little confused when I first opened the program, but I created my first layout in less than sixty minutes, even if I never used My Memories suite before. It is actually so easy to work with.
What overwhelmed me a little bit as I opened this system was the menus. There is one sidebar on each side of the work area and an icon bar over it. And at the first view, they seem doing precisely the same. It is possible to add images and embellishments from all three of them. However the left sidebar is more like a browser, while the control panel sidebar at the right side allows you to customize every little thing. Like shadows, adding music, create videos etc. The left sidebar is great for searching your images.

With My Memories Suite you can pretty much be as artistic as you wish. You can create each page like it was a piece of art, add lots of elements and nice titles. But you can also use the automated functions of the program. You can pick a premade album, then use the autofill feature to add your pictures. Even when you use autofill you can return and change each page until you are happy with them. Anyone knows how annoying it is to get a photobook back from a printer with spelling mistakes. My Memories Suite has a dictionary with spell checker function, maybe one of the most useful functions about the program.
Sometimes I am a little narrow minded. I remember reading a review of another scrapbook software in Macworld not long ago. And the person who wrote this review listed pros and cons, and one of the drawbacks was that he couldn’t add music to the pages. And I thought….hellooo….we make scrapbooks, we don’t expect to listen to Holiday with Scorpions once we open our vacation scrapbook.
Well, actually this is a really cool feature. Instead of sending your album around for everyone to admire after a family dinner, you could just put a dvd in your player and show the whole book on your big flatscreen tv for everyone to see. With My Memories suite you can do all this. You can have a dvd ordered with your printed scrapbook if you like AND you can include video snippets inside the scrapbook pages, and also music.
